Lisa L. Munro, PhD is a cross-cultural engagement leader and regional specialist in U.S.–Latin America relations, with over a decade of experience advancing collaboration between governments, universities, and civil society. She brings more than ten years of leadership in the field of international education, designing and directing programs that promote academic exchange, civic dialogue, and regional development.
Lisa currently serves as Director of Mexico Outreach at the University of New Mexico, where she leads strategic initiatives to deepen academic, diplomatic, and institutional relationships across borders. Her work is grounded in the principles of cultural diplomacy and informed by a strong background in historical and policy analysis.
As a scholar-practitioner, her research explores the history of U.S.–Latin American cultural diplomacy, U.S. imperialism, and consumerism, offering critical insights into how historical narratives shape contemporary U.S. policy towards Latin America and public perception. She has developed and led regional programs focused on education, economic development, and civic leadership in the Yucatán, and has advised nonprofit and higher education partners on stakeholder engagement and international program strategy.
A former U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala, she brings both grassroots and institutional perspectives to her work promoting mutual understanding and regional cooperation. She has lived in Mérida, Mexico since 2018, building long-term, place-based relationships throughout the region. Lisa holds a PhD in Latin American History from the University of Arizona and is dedicated to fostering inclusive, lasting partnerships across the Americas through education, diplomacy, and thoughtful engagement.
